lightning Strikes Twice

August 29, 2016

Join us for First Saturday Art Crawl, September 3, 2016, from 6 to 9 p.m., to take in the latest collaborative printwork between master printer Jim Sherraden, and Jon Langford. The evening’s fun will include a live performance from Jon (founder of the Mekons and the Waco Brothers).

The 2015 collaboration between master printer Jim Sherraden and Jon Langford, our first visiting artist, resulted in a beautiful edition of monoprints celebrating “Girl from the North Country,” a song written by Bob Dylan. It was a pleasure to share the shop with Jon, and the edition of twenty-five varied prints sold out, nearly in the blink of an eye.

This year, Jim and Jon have teamed up again, for another monoprint edition and more.

To celebrate the release of Rhino Records’ Trio: Farther Along—a double-LP of newly remastered bonus material from the Complete Trio Collection by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris, Jim and Jon used newly hand-carved wood-cut images, as well as blocks from the historical Hatch Show Print collection for an edition of twenty-five monoprints. The artwork was used in the album design, and the monoprints will be available in Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery starting in September. A little extra bit of special: Five of the monoprints are signed by Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.

In addition to this work, Jim and Jon completed a long-distance collaboration, too.

Jon laid down imagery on the paper, in bold black ink, with a loose hand. He sent the prints to Jim, and Jim, inspired by the lines and swashes and dots of black, brought in color and imagery from Hatch Show Print’s collection.

There are sixteen of these prints, with a variety of images, ranging from an octopus to a skeleton cowboy.

Hope to see you there!
